Who is she?

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood represents Illinois’ 14th Congressional District. Elected in 2018, she made history as one of the youngest Black women ever elected to Congress. Underwood has focused on improving healthcare access, with a particular emphasis on maternal health. As a registered nurse, she has worked to address racial disparities in maternal health outcomes and championed policies to ensure equitable access to care for mothers, especially women of color. Her legislative efforts also include expanding access to affordable healthcare and protecting reproductive rights. Underwood is committed to advancing health equity and promoting policies that improve the well-being of all communities.
