In 2023, she became a mother, welcoming her first child, later partnering with Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen on a bipartisan effort to allow new parents to participate in congressional votes via proxy for 12 weeks after welcoming a child—a resolution that has faced opposition from Speaker Mike Johnson, who argues that proxy voting is unconstitutional.
